I already discussed the unprecedented orders of magnitude at play first in the rescue and now in the recovery programs. We now casually discuss trillions the way we discussed billions not so long ago forgetting that a trillion represents a million time one million.
We know that these efforts are necessary and we tend to believe there might even be some magic there. Could it be at the end of the day free money?
However not my point here. Even if I know deep in my heart that there is no such thing as a free lunch. And that «too good to be true» is often a common sense test.
My point is rather: what is the vision behind the trillions? Where do we want to go with this amazing effort? Could it just be the combination of a quick review of the needs time the power of some lobbies? Or is there more into it?
I can’t believe we are not already everywhere seizing our compass to choose a course. Sustainable and fair! Chance alone can’t make it. And no invisible hand will naturally connect the dots of inconsistent and fragmented plans. Decisions made now will have a long lasting effect. Better get off on the right foot. Not being crazy and ignoring urgency but being ambitious. Looking forward not backward. Not a cork on water.
