A weekend anchored in childhood memory. After the 3 little pigs the Emperor’s new clothes from Andersen suddenly emerged out of my memory. To refresh the rusty memories : two weavers come to the emperor and promise him clothes which they promise will be invisible to those who are stupid or incapable. Of course in reality, they do not make any clothes at all but they make everybody believe the clothes are invisible to them. Eventually the emperor parades before his subjects in his new "clothes" and for sure no one dares to say that they do not see anything on him for fear to be considered stupid. Until a child yells: « But he isn't wearing anything at all! ».
Is there a comparison to be made with all those who have sold magic prescriptions. Economic, financial, social potions whose invisible qualities were supposed to make our world amazing until we realize it was hot smoke and soon we were naked. Let’s not fool ourselves and make sure our new clothes will properly dress us ! And let’s make sure our kids never say « But they are not wearing anything at all ».
Or remember what Warren Buffet famously said : « Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked ».
