War and Peace. I opened it 20 years ago. I had been hesitant for so long. Out of respect for a genuine monument? It is one of the regrets I have with the period we are in. I thought I could read it again. And I just have simply opened it and flipped through the pages. Enough to see parallels with our experience today. Billions of individual destinies and fates carried away by history as it unfolds. We are focused on our own history and have to acknowledge that we are not alone and that there are many truths besides ours, there are many experiences besides ours: « the ever-changing, ever-great, unfathomable, and infinite life around [me]". And besides this there is History. With a capital H. Which we try to explain and which with every day passing becomes more and more senseless. The course of life. Fictional and so real. It was a war. And peace did not last. Are we in a war? uncertain. But we need to win the peace. “The strongest of all warriors are these two — Time and Patience.” Life did not stop, and one had to live A Frenchman's self-assurance stems from his belief that he is mentally and physically irresistibly fascinating to both men and women.
